Nexus does not house your websites/applications on servers being fed with bandwidth passing through ‘bottleneck’ back bones (Like PTCL). Hence, improving uptime/speeds and reliability. Our Datacenters have GB’s of connectivity with less then 50% utilization. For redundancy, Nexus is currently running BGP4 (border gateway routing protocol) to maintain the speed and uptime. If one backbone line goes down, it will balance the load to the other(s). If one line gets congested, it will load balance the traffic.
All facilities are staffed 24 hours a day 7 days a week for security and prompt service. Exact specifications on the facilities Nexus uses are given below:

Nexus’ World class data center in Scranton PA USA is at the heart of it’s success story. Connected to the Internet via multiple high speed DS-3 circuits, the data center offers a high performance reliable place to host your servers. The entirely switched internal LAN segments are all connected to the core switches at 100mbps. Power is provided via Uninterruptible power supplies and an auto start, auto transfer backup generator that will keep your server up and running in the event of a total power failure. A full list of features/services in usage in our Data Center are found below.

Data Center Features

Precision-controlled air conditioning systems protect and cool mission-critical servers and equipment in the Data Center. The facility is controlled by dual 30-Ton APC™/Airflow™ triple-compresser redundant systems. These systems provide a virtually dust-free and particle-free computing environment, with temperature, humidity, and air-quality regulation.
Our Data Center currently has 800amps 3-Phase AC power currently available from PP&L™ (Pennsylvania Power & Electric). The facility is currently backed up and protected by a 160KVA Powerware™ 9135 facility-wide UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) system. In a very rare case of utility outage, our Cummins™ 250KW deisel generator starts automatically, taking over for the UPS systems and supplying all necessary power for the facility. The generator interfaces to the power grid thru a Cutler-Hammer™ automatic transfer panel. The generator is powered by a 500 gallon fuel tank, capable of running without refueling for approximately 80 hours.
The Data Center uses industry-standard SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) and provides round-the-clock monitoring of all hardware, including routers, switches, UPS systems, and servers. The Data Center also monitors power, environmental factors (such as temperature and humidity), generator status, and network connectivity. All critical services/ports are monitored, including FTP, HTTP, SMTP, HTTPS, SSH, TELNET, and POP3. We provide network monitoring of the Local Area Network, Internet connectivity (all routers, switches, and wiring), and the Internet backbone via MRTG. Our close and constant communication with our upstream backbone providers ensures that our customers have constant access to high-performance Internet connections. Failure on any monitoring service results in and alerting our staff paging system.
The Data Center utilizes the Red Hat™ Linux operating system on the majority of servers present. Red Hat™ Linux is a highly configurable system, and well known for speed and stability. Red Hat™ Linux servers have been documented to remain operating for up to one year at a time without even requiring a reboot. The Apache™ Web Server nicely compliments the Red Hat™ Linux Operating System. The majority of remaining servers operate on the Microsoft™ Windows™ NT/2000 operating systems, with Internet Information Server™ Web Server. Microsoft™ Windows™ NT/2000 provides a system that simplifies database, application, and visual effect programming. Nexus also supports FreeBSD™, Mandrake™, Slackware™, Turbo Linux™, & Debian Linux™.
Restricted access to the Network Operations Center is monitored by qualified personnel 24 hours a day, every day. Visitors and clientele are only allowed on-site if escorted by Data Center staff. The entire Data Center is monitored, ensuring prompt response and thorough coverage to fire or security alarms. We supply all our Data Center customers with advanced firewall, encryption, intrusion detection and other security measures. Nexus maintains a full digital video surveillance system of the Data Center, with full on-site and off-site recording.
Nexus automatically provides backup data services to all shared hosting solutions clientele. Services are also optionally available to all dedicated and co-location clientele. Nexus utilizes backup hard drives on each individual server to store backups. Linux systems store zipped copies of server system files and client data files, for simple server rebuilding. Windows™ NT/2000/2003 servers store full image backups (identical copy of operating system and data at time of backup), for full system restoration. Off-server and off-site backup services are available as well.
The Data Center utilizes ONLY top name brand hardware. The network is centered on a Cisco™ GSR12000 Border Routers, and Cisco 7206VXR Core Routers, connecting via Gigabit Ethernet to the Hewlett Packard™ Procurve™ 4108GL & Cisco™ Catalyst™ primary switches. Hewlett Packard™ Procurve™ managed switches comprise the power and stability of the network, operating at 100mbps switched ethernet speeds. Hardware utilized in the facility is comprised of name brands, including the following: Intel™, Asus™, Abit™, AMD™, 3Com™, Hewlett Packard™, Adaptec™, Cisco™, Tekram™, Kingston™, Micron™, Crucial™, IBM™, Maxtor™, Western-Digital™, Seagate™, Quantum™, Fujitsu™, Realtec™, Belkin™, & Lucent™. APC™, Tripp-Lite™, Compaq™, & Liebert™ UPS Systems provide the power backups, along with a Cummins™ generator system. Facility monitoring is provided by a Panasonic™ WD-500 Digital Video System over Sony™ & Panasonic™ CCTV cameras.
The network is connected via Gigabit fiber connections to Verizon™ (Formerly Bell Atlantic PA), PPL Telcom™, (a sub-division of Pennsylvania Power & Electric™ – PPL™) and Commonwealth Telephone™ (CTSI™), NorthEast PA’s 2nd largest Telco. Our transit is provided via Gigabit Ethernet (1000mbps) from Verio™ (https://www.verio.com), Global Crossing™ (https://www.glbx.com), Cogent™ (https://www.cogentco.com), and XO™ Communications (https://www.xo.com). For redundancy, we are currently running BGP4 (border gateway routing protocol) to maintain the speed and uptime. If one backbone line goes down, it will balance the load to the other(s). If one line gets congested, it will load balance the traffic.

Nexus’ Fremont, CA Datacenter is connected to a national backbone that is ranked among the top in the nation. With connections ranging from OC48s (2.4 Gbps) to gigabit ethernet (1,000 Mbps) connections to several major exchange points, (including MAE-West in San Jose, CA; PAIX in Palo Alto, CA; AADS in Chicago, IL; NYIIX in New York, NY; and MAE-East in Vienna, VA) forming rings around the USA our Fremont datacenter has the best level of connectivy.
The self-healing network architecture virtually eliminates a single point of failure. In addition to the backbone, in place is a backup transit from multiple providers in multiple locations to ensure that data will arrive via the shortest possible route. Because of the backup transit and the many international peers, the network maintains the shortest routesfor sending data all over the world. On an ongoing basis, negotiations take place with the top fiber carriers for new routes, additional backup transit providers, and updated peering relationships are always being added.
Our peering arrangements include the following exchanges and are ever-growing so do check back for the latest updates here:
  • MAE-West in San Jose (100Mbps FDDI,155Mbps OC3 ATM)
  • MAE-East (100Mbps FDDI,155Mbps OC3 ATM)
  • AADS in Chicago
  • PAIX(Palo Alto Internet Exchange) in Palo Alto (1000Mbps Gigabit Ethernet)
  • NYIIX (New York Internet Exchange) in New York (100Mbps Fast Ethernet)

  • Level3 Communications
  • Sprint
  • MCI WorldCom
  • Frontier
  • Pac Bell (155Mbps OC3 ATM)
  • AADS (Ameritech) (155Mbps OC3 ATM)
The entire network is fully switched and utilizes the Border Gateway Protocol Version 4 (BGP4) over Cisco 12000 series GSR routers. This ensures that bandwidth can be routed through the best available carrier giving you seamless connectivity at the same time. We always update the router’s IOS after we have stress tested the latest IOS on a non-critical router, to make sure it is very stable. The switch that your equipment will ultimately be connected to is connected back to a core router via fiber.
Our Co-location Facility was designed from the ground up to serve data housing needs. Raised floors, individually locked cabinets, advanced climate control and back-up power, custom designed video surveillance of every cabinet, and onsite security measures assure that servers are safe and run optimally. The Data Center is guarded, monitored, and staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and was engineered with HVAC environmental systems, digital surveillance, stringent security, conditioned uninterruptible power, and your convenience in mind.

When connecting to the Internet, speed, performance and redundancy are paramount. That’s why Nexus uses the Colo4Dallas premium network. Using this network offers our servers direct feeds from three tier 1 carriers and optimized for performance, not the lowest cost. With management services from TMS and the datacenter space from C4D Nexus is one of the few companies which actually owns the hardware we use for hosting our customers. Furthermore our hardware upgrade policy ensures all hardware is routinely upgraded to ensure the best possible level of service.
With Colo4Dallas’ simple network map connecting our servers to state-of-the-art equipment, we get as close to the cloud as possible, with the utmost in reliability and redundancy and we have all the speed we expect – guaranteed – without latency or packet loss, thanks to the Gigabit Ethernet connections and Internap Flow Control Platform (FCP).

Data Center Features

Some providers take liberties when describing their carriers and whether their network offers border gateway protocol (BGP). We use Gigabit Ethernet connections from Internap, Time Warner and Level3 – we don’t push traffic to low-end providers. And, each network has its own entrance to the facility.
Our network provides the best of all worlds: BGP to support multiple providers, enhanced by the Internap 5200 flow control platform. Forget about the shortest or theoretical best route – the Internap FCP appliance definitively identifies the fastest route for your data. If it senses any latency or packet loss in the chosen direction, it reroutes around it. And, it won’t send traffic on a long, circuitous cross-country route just to avoid AS hops. With diverse entrances and FCP, the Colo4Dallas network is designed to sends traffic down the smartest path offering our customers the best possible speeds.
Our highly reliable automatic backup systems ensure constant, uninterrupted power to your equipment:
PowerWare and Leibert UPS systems operate independently to provide true redundancy.
Multiple diesel generators covering the entire facility remain on standby.
If commercial power fails, automatic transfer switches (ATS) immediately activate generators, monitor electric feeds and transfer stabilized loads to generators.
The UPS systems keep equipment seamlessly powered, preventing resets while generators kick in.
Failure on any monitoring service results in and alerting our staff paging system.
Fully redundant Cisco architecture using 6500 Layer3 switches and hot swap router protocol (HSRP) failover protection
